Observation Report: Parents Emotional Workshop for Grades 1–4 Facilitator: Ms. Prutha Lunvara Observed by: Mihika Shah Date: 26/07/2025 A parent emotional workshop for Grades 1 to 4 was conducted by Ms. Prutha Lunvara on 26th July,2025 focusing on age-appropriate developmental understanding and parenting strategies. The session was divided into two parts: one for Grades 1–2 and the other for Grades 3–4, and was aimed at helping parents support their child’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and social growth. For Grades 1–2, Ms. Lunvara explained that children begin to show signs of more complex brain development — they ask "why" questions, explore logical reasoning, and express thoughts and emotions more clearly. Physical development is rapid at this stage, requiring at least two hours of daily physical activity. Socially, children begin forming peer relationships and start taking up simple responsibilities like self-care (eating, bathing, understanding hunger). Parents were encouraged to teach emotional labelling, promote healthy and consistent routines, and teach them to handle negative emotional experiences. In case discussions, common issues such as excessive junk food intake, irregular sleep routines, and school avoidance were addressed. Parents were advised to: •Give limited choices (2–3 only) to avoid overwhelm •Create consistent routines around meals and sleep •Encourage conversation (15 minutes daily about school) •Avoid screen exposure before bedtime •Respond to emotional behaviour rather than reacting harshly The session for Grades 3–4 focused on increased social interaction, emotional sensitivity, and the influence of peer comparison. Children in this stage develop language skills like sarcasm and jokes and begin exploring moral values. The facilitator highlighted the need for consistent boundaries, emotional role modelling, and structured routines to manage behavioural concerns such as hyperactivity, use of abusive language, or overuse of digital devices. The facilitator also discussed topics which included children demanding mobile phones or Instagram accounts and exposure to online platforms like Roblox, Omegle, and Meta AI. Parents were encouraged to explain the pros and cons of social media, model responsible online behaviour, and maintain open conversations about digital safety. Key recommendations shared by the facilitator: •Establish 15-minute focused study sessions due to short attention spans •Avoid comparison with other children •Praise effort, not just outcomes •Let children take charge of simple tasks to build confidence •Limit screen time and monitor online engagement •Spend quality time and be emotionally available In both sessions, it was emphasized that children closely observe adult behaviour — including how parents handle their emotions, apologize, and treat others. The workshop encouraged a shift toward mindful, empathetic, and structured parenting practices. Overall, the sessions were interactive, informative, and well-received by parents.

Lay Salesian Partners (LSP) 3.0 Formation Programme “Give me souls and take away the rest.” These powerful words of Don Bosco set the tone for the six-day Lay Salesian Partners (LSP) 3.0 Formation Programme held at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Koregaon Park, Pune — a first-of-its-kind initiative in South Asia. From the very first evening on 10th July 2025, there was a sense of warmth, reflection, and shared purpose as lay collaborators and educators from various Don Bosco institutions came together. The inaugural session, led by Fr. Ian Doulton, created a welcoming atmosphere of connection and learning. With heartfelt hymns and engaging introductions, the stage was set for a journey not just of professional development, but of personal transformation. Each morning began with the grounding presence of the Eucharist, followed by Lectio Divina — moments that reminded us of the deep spiritual foundation of our Salesian calling. Fr. Ian’s sessions on teenage psychology were particularly insightful. With real-life examples and compassion, he helped us understand the complex emotional world of today’s youth — their struggles, fears, and silent cries for affirmation. He gently reminded us that we are not just teachers, but mentors, companions, and steady hands guiding them forward. Fr. Valerian Pereira’s presentations brought Don Bosco’s story alive — not as distant history, but as a living mission shaped by love, courage, and relentless faith. We reflected on the socio-political challenges Don Bosco faced, and saw in them echoes of the realities our own students live in today. One of the most touching moments was exploring the life and influence of Mamma Margaret. Her quiet strength, deep faith, and motherly love became a model for how we, too, can nurture with patience, correct with gentleness, and lead by example. Fr. Vinod Mascarenhas added great depth to the programme with his session on Don Bosco’s Dream at the Age of Nine. Through a powerful video and group reflections, he helped us understand Don Bosco’s prophetic call and its relevance in our educational mission today. Sr. Teresa Joseph FMA and Tr. Christina Mascarenhas (DBM) reminded participants of the deeper calling behind the role of an educator. Sr. Teresa, speaking on the theme “We are Teachers in the Making,” inspired teachers to embrace their evolving journey with confidence and purpose, highlighting how education shapes lives in profound ways. Tr. Christina reflected on Don Bosco’s deep zeal for souls and his selfless dedication to the young, emphasizing the relevance of his Preventive System rooted in reason, faith, and loving kindness. Film screenings, open conversations, and interactive group sessions added richness to the experience. By the end of the week, it was clear: being a Lay Salesian is not just a role — it is a vocation. A call to walk with the young, believe in them, and carry forward Don Bosco’s dream — one soul at a time. -Tr.
